HILARY WOODS
With more conventional rock bands and other forms of non-musical artistic expression in her past, it was only in 2014 that Irish singer/songwriter Hilary Woods found her true voice, releasing a small EP called “Night”. Ever since then, her writing muse has been positively on fire, with two more EPs and three full-lengths (which will be four when Amplifest takes place), works that, through their singularly hypnotic, tenebrous vibe, have taken her on a truly bold journey of exploration. Her songs always seem to exist on the very edge of a cliff, fragile and vulnerable yet firm and threatening at the same time. Whether suffering from a Spartan minimalism or buried by a sudden instrumental luxury, she always seems to pick the most appropriate structures and sounds that serve the purest expression of the song’s intentions – each Hilary Woods song is unmistakably hers, and no one else’s.
