MUTOID MAN

By now, you don’t even need to be a fan of Mastodon, for whom Mutoid Man have opened on their only Portuguese appearance so far, to be fully acquainted with these guys. As a matter of fact, right here in our Amplifest universe alone, we already have all the tools to be immediately looking forward to their show without the need for any further introduction. Sure, most “supergroups” only look great on paper and then often fumble the ball when it’s time to rock out for real, but when you have Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky and Converge’s Ben Koller, illustrious members of the Amplifamily, there’s really little chance that everything doesn’t catch fire straight away. On top of it, since 2021, they have the company of High On Fire’s Jeff Matz on bass, so we’re really looking at a puzzle that always results in a perfect final picture no matter how you assemble it. With two muscled, agile, punked-up albums under their belt already, the first Porto visit for Mutoid Man, with a new album in store, will get the whole of Amplifest jumping around hard.
