Over the past twenty-five years now, Sunn O))) have been challenging and expanding the ways we perceive music, art and reality. In this time, core members Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson have forged cosmic connections between the realms of Metal, Drone, Contemporary Composition, Jazz and Minimalism. The result is visceral and abstract: an all-encompassing vortex of volume, density and weight, like a primordial hum from the universe being run through a wall of vintage valve amplifiers, refracting and reflecting both light and darkness in a million different directions. Following the release of their latest album Life Metal, and its counterpart Pyroclasts, which were put to tape in an all-analogue process by Steve Albini and feature Oscar-winner musician Hildur Guðnadóttir as a guest performer, Sunn O))) are now set to bring their visionary craft to Amplifest, for us all to experience the power of sound as a truly transformative, generative force.
