METZ

After their sweeping debut at Plano B in 2013 and their memorable show at the 2015 edition of Amplifest, Metz have now set the date or their return to Porto. They will bring along Strange Peace – their third work under the umbrella of the iconic and essential label Sub Pop, an incubator of iconic acts such as Nirvana or Mudhoney. It is partly in the nineties catalog of their label where Metz take inspiration to create their ferocious, addictive and deliciously punishing songs that reference rock and roll as much as punk – without leaving aside an experimental vein that drives them to make rock music sound fresher and more urgent than ever. The chance to witness Metz at their prime happens on April 18 at Hard Club.

MOANING

Chris Slochar’s amazing bass tone helped the METZ concert feel like a punch in the stomach, while both Alex Edkins and Hayden Menzies delivered everything they got – a typical yet still surprising force shown by the Canadian trio.

Strange Peace is more – more intense, more melodic, more brutal, more confident.
[4/5] – DIY

It’s hard to imagine where METZ can go after pushing their sound and skills into the red zone as they have on Strange Peace, but with their third album, they’ve left no doubt that they’re one of the most singularly powerful rock bands in North America, and you ignore them at your peril.
[4/5] – All Music

METZ has a habit of keeping their listeners waiting for new music, but when Strange Peace is the final product, the wait suddenly feels justified. The quality of songwriting on this album might not only be the best that METZ has ever done, but it’s also one of the better noise rock records of recent memory.
